Motor Vehicle Agreement Bimstec

Informal discussions have led to a new consensus on sub-regional relations outside bilateral agreements, in part due to the continuing failure of existing systems. [7] At a summit in Kathmandu in November 2014, an agreement on land transport by regional states was approved, with the exception of one country`s reservations that led it to fail. The Subsequent Summit Declaration confirmed sub-regional measures that help strengthen ties. A framework for cooperation was then established with the first meeting of the Joint Working Group (JWG) in January 2015. [9] At the BIMSTEC Transport and Connectivity Working Group (BTCWG) meeting in August 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand, key agreements reached at the BTILS final workshop were discussed, including updated and improved policies/strategies, priority projects, supervisory frameworks, an action plan, thematic and institutional agreements, and the draft mandate (ToR) of the BTCWG and the project monitoring system. At the 18th OSCE Summit in Kathmandu in November 2014, India proposed an agreement on SAARC motor vehicles. Pakistan`s objections failed to reach an agreement. Instead, India followed a similar agreement with BBIN. The BBIN Motor Vehicles Agreement (MVA) was signed on 15 June 2015 at the BBIN Transport Ministers` Meeting in Thimpu, Bhutan.

[29] [30] The agreement will allow Member States to transport their vehicles on the territory of the other cargo and passenger provider, including transport and passenger vehicles from third countries. Any vehicle would require electronic authorization to enter another country`s territory and border security agreements between the borders of nations are maintained. [31] Freight vehicles can enter each of the four nations without the need to transfer goods from one country to another at the border. Under the system, cargo vehicles are electronically tracked, authorizations are issued online and sent electronically to all land ports. Vehicles are equipped with an electronic seal that alerts regulators every time the container door is opened. [30] A pact for motor vehicles, which facilitates the movement of goods and people between countries, has been attempted twice in the past. They pledged to conclude negotiations on the free trade area quickly and ordered the meeting of trade and economic ministers bIMSTEC and its subsidiary bodies to expedite the finalization of all related free trade agreements in the free trade agreement as soon as possible. In 2015, India proposed a smooth transport of freight, passenger vehicles (buses) and unsured between Moreh in Manipur and Mae Sot in Thailand. “A second meeting of transport officials from the countries concerned will meet again shortly to discuss again the details of the agreement,” said a senior official from the union`s Ministry of Transport and Highways, who declined to be named. An agreement that improves road links between the bay of Bengal countries is being implemented.

DHL Global Forwarding has been commissioned by the Indian government to conduct a pilot race as part of the agreement. The first truck to benefit from the vehicle agreement was lodged from Calcutta on 1 November 2015. The truck travelled 640 km to Reach Agartala via Dhaka.
